IELTS Speaking

IELTS Speaking is one of the modules in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) designed to assess your speaking skills in a face-to-face interview with an examiner. The Speaking module consists of three parts and is conducted in a separate time from the other modules of the IELTS test.
Here’s an overview of the three parts of the IELTS Speaking module:
1. Part 1: Introduction and Interview
– This part typically lasts for 4-5 minutes.
– The examiner will introduce themselves and ask you to provide some basic personal information, such as your name, occupation, and interests.
– The examiner will then ask you a series of general questions about familiar topics like your hobbies, family, work or studies, and preferences.
– The purpose of this part is to assess your ability to give personal information and communicate in a simple and coherent manner.
2. Part 2: Individual Long Turn (Cue Card)
– In this part, you will be given a task card with a specific topic. You will have one minute to prepare your response and can make notes if you wish.
– You will then need to speak for 1-2 minutes on the given topic.
– After you finish speaking, the examiner may ask you one or two follow-up questions related to the topic.
– The purpose of this part is to assess your ability to speak at length on a topic, organize your thoughts, and provide relevant examples and details.
3. Part 3: Two-way Discussion
– This part typically lasts for 4-5 minutes.
– The examiner will ask you further questions related to the topic discussed in Part 2. These questions are more abstract and require you to express your opinion, speculate, or discuss broader issues related to the topic.
– The purpose of this part is to assess your ability to engage in a deeper conversation, express and support your opinions, and discuss abstract ideas.
